Refund Policy
We understand circumstances are sometimes out of our control. If you have purchased a weekend pass and/or paid for competition entry fees and cannot attend Boogie by the Bay, due to COVID, illness, or any other reason, there are a few options.
You can:
-
- Roll over your purchase to next year’s Boogie by the Bay (event pass and/or competition fees).
- Request a refund of your purchase, minus a $20 administrative fee.
If you are keeping your pass but withdrawing from competitions or intensives, contact us for more information. - Transfer your weekend pass to another person. You and the person receiving the pass MUST follow the process described by our registration staff.
(Note: If you are transferring a “special rate” weekend pass such as NextGen, Junior, or Chaperone / Spectator, the person you are transferring the pass to must also qualify for that special rate, or pay the difference.)
Send an email to boogie@nextgenswing.com to process a rollover, refund or transfer, or to request more information.
Interested in Volunteering?
We need volunteers!
This event would not be possible without the many hours that Next Gen members and other dancers donate as volunteers. Whether you can spare just an hour or two, or want to work more hours in return for discounted admission, we would be grateful for your help.
Our minimum requirement for a free weekend pass is 10 hours of volunteering. We also offer a discounted weekend pass for people volunteering 6 to 9 hours.
Examples of volunteer opportunities:
- Registration desk
- Set-up and tear-down
- Door monitors/greeters
- Floaters (for odd jobs such as chair set-up and floor sweeping for competitions)
- Saturday dinner traffic control
- Merchandise sales

Competition Details
WSDC (World Swing Dance Council) Jack & Jills
- You may enter only one WSDC skill level division (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, All-Stars, or Champions) in your primary role. If you are 50+ years old, you may also enter the Masters Jack & Jill.
- You may also choose to compete in your secondary role one or two levels down. As long as you qualify to compete at that level according to the WSDC points registry, no petition is needed.
- Per WSDC rules, you may also petition to compete down in your primary role. Please register for your Jack & Jill online in your original division, then fill out a WSDC petition form and submit it to boogie@nextgenswing.com. Our competition director, Andy Bouman, will forward your petition to our chief judge for that division to make a decision. Our chief judge will review your petition and approve or deny your request. If your petition is successful, we will notify you and move your Jack & Jill registration to the new level.
- You must submit your petition to move down at least 24 hours before the deadline to enter that competition closes
- IMPORTANT: To petition to move up one skill level, you must submit your petition to the WSDC following their timeline and instructions.
Switch-it-Up Jack & Jill
- Are you comfortable dancing both roles? For this competition, you and your partner will be expected to switch roles frequently. Open to all levels. (This is not a WSDC competition, so no points will be awarded.)
Next Generational Jack & Jill
- Juniors (under 18) are paired with All-Stars/Champions. This is a special competition at Boogie by the Bay to support young dancers and encourage them to continue their dance journey. Each Junior who enters will draw a random Champion or All-Star partner. There is no entry fee. (This is not a WSDC competition, so no points will be awarded.)
Strictly Swing Competitions
Strictly Swing competitions are where you enter into a competition as a pre-determined partnership. Grab your favorite person to dance with and try a strictly!
Routine Competitions
The routine division is broken into three primary categories of Rising Star, Classic, and Showcase. This year we will also have a Pro-Am Routine Division.
